[MAY family] [ Grandaddy May 1937- 1939] Nine letters written by Grandaddy May from Lyneham, Chislehurst, Kent U.K. to his grandsons Master R.J.May and Master Michael May at various locations; Caldy Radlett [ the majority], as well as Pontypool and Lymington. The letters, and sometimes theenvelopes are illustrated in a bold humorous style, and are executed in pen and wash, some under drawing in pencil. One letter is decidedly politically non- correct and demonstrates racial attitudes prevalent at the time. Some cards are sent for birthdays or Christmas, one for illness, and a couple relate to gardening, or tool use.
