Oak carving, probably C16th and Flemish. Approx 71 cm x 10cm x 3 cm. The panel shows Putti hunting a fox with a dog on a lead with entwined foliage, grapes on a vine , one putto blowing a horn. The colour and graining of the oak suggests a Flemish origin, and the Renaissance theme leads us towards a C16th date. This would seem to be well known scene, possibly from classical antiquity, as we have an entirely unconnected Victorian version of this carving which is also for sale ( images and details upon request).
